The Master Plan

When designing the master plan for HSE it was important to designate and separate the living functions of student life from the educational functions. Separating these two aspects of the school is important in that it both focuses the student's minds for learning and at the end of the day, relaxes it for rest and reflection. Another key design feature includes a common space where the school community can come together and interact.

The design solution from Ann Clark Architects LLC includes a large axis bisecting the site front to back. On one side of the axis the dormitory and living functions are placed, while on the other, the educational and administrative functions are located. The design also places a large circular common area at the flattest part of the site and near the entrance to HSE. This large common area is surrounded by a covered loggia with which one can access many parts of the campus while being entirely covered from the elements.
